Oheka Castle, located in Huntington New York, may quite possibly be the most beautiful catering hall on Long Island. Originally built by Otto Kahn between the years 1914 and 1919, Oheka Castle (also know as the Otto Kahn Estate), was and remains the second largest private home in the United States. Originally comprised of 127 rooms spread throughout a 109,000 foot steel and brick construction upon a sprawling compound spanning 443 acres Oheka Castle is not only beautiful but massive.
The history behind the construction of such an incredible estate is an interesting one. Otto Kahn a well-known financier and philanthropist lost his original home in Morristown New Jersey to a horrific fire. He constructed Oheka Castle with the idea of building a completely fireproof and secure home, he was successful in creating one of the first totally fireproof residential buildings in the world. After his death in 1934 the Otto Kahn Estate changed hands many times until in 1984 visionary developer Gary Melius purchased and began the harrowing process of restoring the Castle to its former grandeur.
Melius ultimately was hugely successful in developing one of the most prestigious wedding venues in the world. Oheka Castle, in addition to being featured in several movies and TV shows, is one of the most popular celebration locations internationally. The renown and history of this location is rich and magnificent.
